This week in Cherry Room, we have had lots of interest in food and making things. Outside in the sand, we have been making cakes, using twigs and sticks to make candles for birthday cakes, and we even looked up a recipe so we knew what to put into our mixture to make the cakes. There has been a lot of talk about cooking at home and how you help your grown-ups. The activity developed over the week, and you were all thinking really hard to remember what ingredients we needed for our cakes. When we added Dinosaurs to the sand area outside, some of you thought it was the Dinosaurs’ birthday, so we made cakes for them and thought about how old they were and how many candles we would need to find.
Kelly has been coming in to cook with us on Monday mornings, and this week we made a pea-and-cream-cheese dip. Lots of you helped to make it and especially enjoyed squashing the peas, although this was quite tricky as they liked to roll away as we tried to squash them with a fork. Lots of you helped to cut ingredients and mix them all together. Once it was made, lots of you tried the dip on its own and with carrot, cucumber, pepper sticks, and pitta bread. It was really healthy and yummy!
Towards the end of the week, we had a teddy bears picnic inside and had a go at writing shopping lists for things we would like to have at our picnic. We did lots of talking about the picnics we have been on.
Building with Blocks, both inside and outside, has also been very popular. You have been working together to think, design, and plan what you wanted to build. The blocks looked very heavy, but you all showed strength in carrying them and helping out friends if they were struggling.
