Children in Chestnut and Beech recently enjoyed a very special visit to Hareclive Primary School to watch Wonder Baby, a performance by Travelling Light Theatre.
The adventure began with a walk through the school to the large hall, where children did a fantastic job travelling together and exploring a new environment. Before the performance started, everyone had the opportunity to use a variety of props and loose parts to explore movement and creativity. Rather than using words, children experimented with different sounds and actions to express how they were feeling, supporting their communication and imaginative thinking.
The performers then brought the story of Wonder Baby to life using large loose parts, colourful fabrics and creative storytelling techniques. Children watched with great interest as everyday objects were transformed into characters, settings and exciting moments within the story.
To finish the experience, children lay quietly on mats while the performers gently waved fabrics overhead to the sound of calming music. This provided a peaceful and sensory end to a wonderful morning.
It was a fantastic opportunity to discover the many different ways stories can be told through movement, sound, materials and imagination. Children thoroughly enjoyed the experience and were inspired by the creativity of the performance.
