Last week, some caterpillars arrived in our classroom, and we are excited about watching them grow.

First, they started out as tiny caterpillars, wriggling around a little pot.

In groups, we talked about what we could see them doing and what they looked like. We have been doing this daily to see if the caterpillars change over time.

We have noticed that:

“The caterpillars are changing colour.”

“The caterpillars are bigger.”

“Web (caterpillars spinning their cocoon).”

The children are beginning to understand the life cycle of a caterpillar, and we are reinforcing this by learning the story The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle.

After seven days, we noticed that the caterpillars had built their cocoon. We now need to look at these cocoons from afar as we do not want to break them. It will take 14 days for the caterpillars to turn into butterflies.

We will keep you updated on what happens.
